Our Team

Uptown Animal Hospital has a dedicated staff that is determined to make your pet’s visit as rewarding, comfortable and pleasant as possible. Our doctors offer 149 years of combined professional experience to provide the highest quality veterinary care for dogs and cats in our community.  Get to know our team:

 

Dr. John MacLellan is co-owner of Uptown Animal Hospital.  He resided in the Andersonville area since 1959 and began working at the hospital as an Animal Caretaker in 1966. He graduated from University of Illinois Veterinary Medical School in 1974 and took over the clinic the same year. After more than thirty-five years of service to the community, he has decided to gradually decrease his work load as he eases into retirement. 

 

Dr. Kathryn Tyler is co-owner of Uptown Animal Hospital.  She graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981.  She worked in dairy practices in Northern Illinois and Wisconsin for three years before joining the staff of Uptown Animal Hospital in 1984.  Dr. Tyler lives in the area with her husband and two Shelties

 

Dr. Jim Dickes is co-owner of Uptown Animal Hospital.  He graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983.  He holds a Masters in Public Health and conducted Communicable Disease Research for the City of Chicago.  Dr. Dickes is a Board Member of Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control.  He joined the staff of Uptown Animal Hospital in 2000. 

 
 

Dr. Greg Whisler has been happily working at Uptown Animal Hospital since graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine Kansas State University in 1990.  He is married to a wonderful woman who is also a veterinarian.  Dr. Whisler is currently “owned” by two cats and four dogs.  His hobbies include reading, coin collecting and checking for pet hair in his food before every meal!   

 
 

Dr. Jean Beau graduated from the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987.  She has been a small animal Veterinarian for 23 years and joined us in 2005 where she specializes in more natural treatments, such as supplements, herbs and nutrition. Dr. Beau volunteers with the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association Pet Loss Helpline.  Along with her dog Moose, she also volunteers with physically, mentally and emotionally disabled children at Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy Group.  She likes the Packers, biking and roller-blading. Recently, she was Runner-up in the Reader’s Choice 2010 Chicago’s Best Vet.

 
 
Dr. Erika Lilja grew up in Central Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School in 2000.  She has lived in the Chicago area since 2000 and has worked at a number of local small animal practices.  Dr. Lilja joined the staff of Uptown Animal Hospital in 2005 and lives in the neighborhood with her partner, 4 cats and a dog.   
 

Dr. Lindsay Miller grew up in Southeastern Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.  She did her internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Michigan Veterinary Specialists, a specialty and emergency hospital serving Greater Detroit.  Dr. Miller moved to Chicago in 2007 and started at Uptown Animal Hospital the same year.
